This coming election for Congress in November could be the most important election in more than twenty years for both Democrats and Republicans. Republicans could take over the House and 1/3 of the Senate, which could force President Obama to become more bipartisan. In the article by Rich Lowry, Lowry explains compares Obama's current predicament to what Bill Clinton faced in 1994. When Bill Clinton was President in 1994, Democrats were voted out of Congress and were replaced by Republicans. This is most likely what will happen in the coming election in November. Many people have become angry, and even violent over the health care bill that was just passed. U.S. citizens more than likely won't put Democrats back in power in Congress.
The president needs Congress to pass bills, like the Health Care Bill. Without Democrats in Congress this will kill many of Presidents Obama's plans for this country. Lowry believes it would be better overall for Obama if Republicans take over the Congress. I see this as a way for Obama to work bipartisanly like he desperately tried to when passing the Health Care bill this year.
In the article by Jill Lawrence, she talks about how Rep. Chris Van Hollen believes that the Democrats will keep their majority in the Congress. In don't agree with this at all because many people are upset about what the Democrats did in Congress. Many Representatives even received threats from angry citizens who didn't agree with the passing of the health bill.
Overall, this is probably one of the most important elections for Republicans. They need this to gain an advantage over the democrats. I think that they should also try to work bipartisanly instead of working separately. Congress would get a LOT more things done if both the parties learned how to work together.

  1. Good start; make more connections with the text. For example, what advantages do incumbents have? How many seats are "safe"? So even with the mood of the country, how many seats can Republicans gain?
